There was a full framing crew at the house on Saturday. They finished all the details while I picked up Rick and Josephine from the airport and brought Grandma Reddock to the other airport.
On Sunday, Wiley (of course), Matt R, Rick, and I wired the house with low voltage. We added surround sound for the new family room, speakers on the back patio courtesy of Matt, and some speakers in the kitchen. We also added all the appropriate cable outlets – including one in the laundry room per Jan’s request. Wiley saved the day with his knowledge about telephone wiring and hooked me up with a nice set up for phones! We even wired the new doorbell (including a shut off switch in the front closet for when you don’t want people ringing the doorbell).
It was a long day and I was tired that night. Josephine watched Cayden all day and made sure we were set up with food which was really nice.
Monday the electricians and plumbers where finishing up there punch list in preparation for inspection today. I think we remembered to ask for everything we wanted. They also delivered a bunch of drywall and insulation on Monday.
The surprise of the day was when they busted into our old basement floor to tie in the drain pipe from the new wing they found that the concrete floor was suspended about a foot in the air where the sand below it had settled. Before I added gutters to the front of the house (couple of years ago) we used to get a lot of water up against the front of the house there so I’m sure it eroded the base. The guys are going to fill in the suspended part before they re-concrete that hole in the floor.
I talked to Jan today and she said that the inspectors came and OK-ed everything for electrical and plumbing so that’s good news. Last I heard only the electrician was there adding some finishing touches.
I believe the plan is to get the framing inspected first thing tomorrow morning and then they will put up the insulation so it can be inspect on Thursday. Then they plan to start sheet-rocking the latter half of Thursday. That means I have some pictures to take of the walls so I will be able to find all my low voltage wiring after they rock!
Can you believe that they just started digging a hole in the ground on July 26th!?!?!?
